1. We thought it would be fun, because we’re students and work part-time, plus 12 (grad school) credits, and have lots of free time in need of an outlet – we can’t help but think about libraries and archives, even in our downtime.
2. We have secret desires to be supervillians and kill your stereotypes of librarians and archivists, because the days of the shushers and the shelvers is long gone. None of us even wear glasses (regularly…).
3. We have thoughts…sometimes they’re fleeting, and often quite silly, but that’s what the internet is for. We don’t claim to be experts (yet), but we’re getting better at sounding like we know what we’re talking about.
4. We want to create a common ground between Librarians and Archivists. Can’t we just all hold hands and sing Kumbaya?
Who are those foxy ladies behind the desk?
Adriana: Adriana loves old books. One day, she wants to work in a dark archive (dark as in closed access, as well as light deprived. Don’t worry, she’ll have a battery powered lantern to guide her way). She’s from West Virginia and will not have football mentioned in her biography.
Anne: Anne hails from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (don’t cha know?!). She likes socio-cultural archives, but she’s keeping her options open. She just likes old stuff (not necessarily books). She’s married.
Emily: Emily is from Utah, and all the jokes that entails. She’s a big fan of Cherry Coke Zero, and has an elaborate hierarchy of her Coke flavor preferences. She would like to be a school librarian someday, teaching small children that there’s more to life than Google.
Meggan: Meggan was only allowed to play her clarinet in the orchestra pit once in High School, but she’s trying to get over it. She has a Master’s in clarinet performance and wants to be a music librarian. She also has a not-so-secret love of Dr. Who, Star Trek, and Star Wars and thinks that all information science can be related back to one of these things.
*Disclaimer: The statement of fact in any one of these bios does not mean that none of the other authors does not also share this fantastic quality. Cough, cough, Dr. Who.
